A Singing Strings production

Boldly Going Nowhere

Boldy Going Nowhere is a collection of Dennis' original guitar songs played on a 1927 Martin OOO-28. All the songs were written in the Open G (DGDGBD) or Spanish tuning for the guitar. A tuning that was popular for this guitar in 1927.

This web page will be the portal to the stories behind each song. Things have been a bit busy in the Gallagher/Singing Strings world lately, so the related pages are a little behind in design and implementation. Please return frequently to see what's new.

The Story of How This Recording Came To BE
A few years ago I sent my OOO-28 to Dave Thormahlen at Thormahlen Harps for a very complicated bridge reset repair. Normally this is a routine repair. However, there was very little wood left on the top of the guitar where the bridge sits. Dave Thormahlen implemented a very creative solution to facilitate the repair.

Receiving the guitar back and getting it under my fingers unleashed the creative juices. Martha would be nearby and one evening she said, "Statistics say the chances of you living longer than me are not very good. When you go" (notice how sure she is about this) "I will never be able to hear these songs anymore. You MUST record them for me and for your daughter and your grandson to have a musical legacy from you."

So to the studio I went: Lane Gibson Recording & Mastering.
